IP Peering
Vodafone Peering is the direct interconnection of two peer ASNs, it is set up to exchange direct traffic between these ASNs for the purpose of technically and operationally efficient handling of this traffic. A Private Network Interconnection (PNI) is established to connect these two ASNs. Physically, it is a service interconnection at Layer 1 or Layer 2 of the OSI model. The volume of traffic that is exchanged via the PNI between the Vodafone network and the Partner's network is measured on an ingress and egress basis using the 95th percentile method. This means that every 5 minutes the value of the exchanged traffic is subtracted on the inbound and outbound direction. At the end of the measured settlement period, which shall be one calendar month unless otherwise agreed by the Parties, the top 5% of these readings shall be discarded and the highest remaining value for each direction of traffic shall be taken for settlement purposes.
Peering for the purpose of this Agreement is defined as the interconnection of two peer-to-peer autonomous Internet networks. Therefore, if there is a significant difference between the traffic exchanged between the networks in the inbound and outbound directions above the ratio set forth below, the party whose network received traffic more than that ratio shall have the right to charge the other party for such excess data. The Party that sent the traffic to the other Party's network shall be obliged to pay this fee. The evaluation of the traffic shall be carried out at the end of each calendar month.
Peering policy of Vodafone Czech Republic, a.s.
Basic parameters of the peering policy of Vodafone Czech Republic, a.s.:
- Vodafone peers with local AS, for international AS we can mediate
- the peering connection is codified in writing in a Peering Agreement between Vodafone and the Customer,
- peering is for AS with which we exchange at least 3 Gb of traffic during peak hours,
- measurement of traffic interchange is performed using the 95% percentile method,
- each party bears its own costs for the operation of the interconnection of the two ASNs, in the case of a common cost, the parties agree to cover this cost
- The traffic on the PNI is balanced, If the ratio of IN and OUT traffic is unbalanced, and above a ratio of 1:3, or any other ratio agreed by the parties, the network that sent more traffic to the other network is liable to pay for the excess data. The details are addressed in the relevant Peering Agreement,
- Vodafone reserves the right to create a PNI with another AS even if one or more of the conditions mentioned above are not met if it makes economic or operational sense for Vodafone to do so.

IP Network security. Anti-DDoS
SECURITY FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Vodafone Anti-DDoS service provides effective protection against majority of known DDoS attacks, security and protection of the network and applications running on it. The service is designed for anyone whose services are inextricably linked to a functioning internet connectivity. These are mainly ISPs, financial institutions, e-shops, etc. Due to the ease of creating an attack, their frequency increases and the field of potential targets expands, which is why your company may find itself under a DDoS attack.
Reduce the risk of unexpected costs and operational expenses. Size doesn't matter - no business is so small that it can't be the target of a DDoS attack
Benefits for you
- Very fast reaction to attack - within 180 seconds
- Even in a defensive response to an attack, data does not leave the Vodafone network
- Filtration delay up to 100ms
- The service is fully managed and works automatically
- No need for changes to your network topology
- Possibility of individual setting of traffic evaluation
- We will also connect customers with their own AS to the service
Technical parameters
- Response time in case of attack less than 60 seconds.
- Guaranteed annual service availability (Arbor Platform) 99,9 %
- Impact on latency, jitter, and packet loss in the Internet service during traffic clean-up. When an attack occurs, traffic is routed through the clean-up center - impact on response time in the case of mitigation: < 3 to 6ms.
- Minimum transfer rate for cleaning 100 Mbps
- Maximum time to clear traffic after a DDoS attack 5 minutes
- Maximum operational capacity of scrubbing center 3x80Gbps= 240Gbps
- Reporting YES
DDoS attack
A DDoS attack is a technique of overloading the network or server resources of a service provider or individual customers by making their service unavailable on the Internet. DDoS attacks can be conducted volumetrically (overwhelming the ability of a processor or memory to respond to many false requests) or exploit weaknesses in IP protocols or misconfigured devices to trigger a DDoS attack. DDoS renders the attacked service unavailable, and in many cases, data loss is reported in an attack on enterprise infrastructure.
Restrictions on access
- Blocking unwanted IP addresses
- IP reputation-based filter (botnets, spammers, anonymization services)
- Filter based on IP location data (countries and autonomous systems with the largest botnets)
- Blocking unwanted TCP/UDP ports
Protocol verification
- Protection against link congestion using ICMP, smurf attacks, SYN congestion
- Apply frequency restrictions by incoming clients and by protected servers
- Packet/flow rate control for TCP/UDP based traffic
- Limiting IP fragmentation and TCP segmentation frequency
- Application of granular principles to symmetric and asymmetric transmissions
Breach of protocol
- Deny IP TCP/UDP traffic when data is spoofed
- Ensuring the correct IP/TCP/UDP header length
- Performing multicast traffic checks
- Rejecting invalid checksums and malformed UDP packets
- Blocking TCP state violations
Integrity analysis
- Rejecting truncated packet lengths and invalid/repeated TCP segment IDs
- Blocking IP segmentation/fragmentation abuse (advanced leakage techniques)
- Analysis and possible blocking of tunnels for unsupported types
- Preventing attacks from spoofed IP addresses
- Protection from attacks like rose, smurf, teardrop and "Ping of death"
Other benefits
- It can quickly and accurately distinguish between different categories of behaviour: legitimate (normal) traffic, malicious (offensive) traffic and unusual traffic resulting from normal traffic.
- For protection to be truly effective and to be of real benefit to the customer, protection can be defined exactly according to the needs of the customer and their server/service.
- Anti-DDoS does not replace the firewall, does not address misconfigured devices or applications, or points with weak passwords! Based on analysis, the service detects general signs of an attack and removes them from the data stream, significantly reducing the risk of a breach or overwhelming the protection with malicious traffic.
