Vodafone reduces rates for SMS, data, and calling from the EU and Croatia

03. June 2009

Vodafone is reacting to a decree from the European Commission and adjusting its prices for roaming services. In the scope of regulation, it is introducing lower prices outside of EU countries, including the most popular foreign destination among Czechs – Croatia. Effective June 19, Vodafone is reducing the price of sending an SMS from 35 countries from the current CZK 8.33 to CZK 3.45.

It is also reducing the rates for incoming calls and per 1 MB of data downloaded in these countries. At the same time, Vodafone is making its method of call billing more advantageous for customers.

“This summer’s hit will undoubtedly be sending SMS messages from abroad. This also applies to trips to Croatia, which is the most frequented summer destination among Czechs,” said Martin Chvátal, Marketing Specialist for Roaming Services, Vodafone, adding, “Customers can also look forward to adjustments to tariffication that we are making for the Vodafone World tariff as well as the popular Vodafone Passport tariff, which 315 thousand customers are currently using.”

Vodafone offers two voice roaming tariffs – Vodafone World Roaming, which is more advantageous for making brief calls from abroad, and Vodafone Passport, which pays off primarily for calls that last longer than two minutes. Both tariffs are transparent, dividing prices for the service throughout the world into three zones, and are valid regardless of which operator the customer connects through while abroad.

Summary of roaming changes valid from June 19, 2009:

  • CZK 3.45 per SMS sent from abroad – valid for both roaming tariffs (previously CZK 8.33)
  • CZK 60 per 1 MB of data downloaded as part of the Connect from Abroad for a Day (Připojení ze zahraničí na den) and Connect from Abroad Continuously (Připojení ze zahraničí na stálo) tariffs (previously CZK 90)
  • CZK 60 per 1 MB of data downloaded in Zone 1 (previously CZK 170)
  • 1+1 billing for incoming calls in Zone 1 with the Vodafone World Roaming tariff (previously 60+60)

  • 60+1 billing for all calls in all zones with the Vodafone Passport tariff (previously 60+60)
