Vodafone Passport has taught Czechs to make more calls from abroad

20. October 2008

During this years summer holidays, Vodafone customers made 50% more calls while abroad and downloaded 2.5 times more data than they did during the same period last year. Simplification of the Vodafone Passport service and recent data roaming rate reductions has had a positive influence on the growth in usage of Vodafone roaming services. Vodafone recorded more than double growth in the number of users of Vodafone Passport, which has been activated by over 280 thousand customers since May 2007. Three quarters of Vodafone customers on holiday made calls from EU countries.

The summer season showed that Vodafone customers have stopped perceiving roaming as something expensive. This years record growth in customers using the Vodafone Passport service is evidence of this, says Jaroslav Mak, Roaming Manager, Vodafone, adding, The success of Passport also proves that customers who have activated this service call through roaming three times more often than, and twice as long as, customers using the Vodafone World service.

A year-on-year comparison of roaming calls made by Vodafone customers in the ten most popular roaming destinations during the period of July to August 2007 and 2008 indicates that:

  • The total volume of incoming and outgoing calls increased year-on-year:
    • by 50% in zone 1
    • by 73% in zone 2
    • by 60% in zone 3
  • The total volume of downloaded data increased by 141%
  • The total number of users of Vodafone roaming services (Vodafone World Roaming and Vodafone Passport) increased by 20%
  • The number of Vodafone Passport customers has more than doubled
  • During this yearďż˝s summer holidays, Vodafone customers called most frequently from EU countries (73%) and from Croatia (13%)
  • In June 2008, Vodafone simplified its roaming services considerably:

    • Set up only three pricing zones for all voice services
    • Started charging the same rate for calls within one zone (i.e. partner / non-partner network concept no longer valid)
    • Improved Vodafone Passport service ďż˝ from June 9, the Vodafone Passport service can be used anywhere in the world
    • Reduced data rates
