Vodafone is the first operator to have a certified CSR system
Vodafone is the first Czech telecommunications company to have a certified CSR system, confirming that corporate social responsibility forms an integral part of its business. The certificate was granted by the independent Certification Body by the Czech Society of Quality CSQ-CERT, as part of the National Program for the Assessment of Agreement of the Corporate Responsibility Management System.
CSQ-CERT monitored the interconnection of the company’s business operation with its priorities in corporate social responsibility and the compliance with the requests of the National Program. The certificate confirms that CSR principles permeate through all activities at the company, that Vodafone plans them systematically including the necessary resources and that it communicates and evaluates them in the same way as all other business activities.
“For a long time, we have been ranking among the leaders in corporate social responsibility at the Czech market. This certificate confirms that our company takes the CSR principles in account in its day-to-day operation as well as its strategic development,“ says Přemysl Filip, the Senior Manager for Corporate Responsibility at Vodafone.
To prove that corporate responsibility is an integral part of its business, Vodafone can boast a number of programs and activities. These include, for example, the use of electric cars and bikes, the project of used mobile devices recycling and the globally unique project The First Green Network in which Vodafone committed itself to power its network by renewable energy.
At the same time, Vodafone actively promotes fair business practices. It was the first big Czech company to abandon billboards at highways. It adheres to ethical purchase practices, paying attention not only to the price, but also to the social and environmental behaviour of its suppliers. Regularly, Vodafone provides free promotional space to non-profit organizations. The company is also successful in the care for communities: it supports blood donation, corporate volunteering and the interchange of know-how between the non-profit and business sectors (“World of Difference” program organized by the Vodafone Foundation).
The National Program for the Assessment of Agreement of the Corporate Responsibility Management System is a Czech analogy of ISO 26000. Other norms have also been taken into account, namely ČSN EN ISO 9001, ČSN EN ISO 14001, ČSN OHSAS 18001.
