In addition to Zlín, people can quickly download data to mobiles and portable computers in Prague, Brno, Karlovy Vary, Ostrava, Plzen, Olomouc and Liberec. New and existing Vodafone customers in Zlín can try the technology out for one month for free.

"During the construction of the high-speed 3G network, we placed great emphasis on optimization in order to guarantee the maximum quality of our voice and data services," says Paul Kos, Vice-president of technology for Vodafone and adds: "Vodafone's engineers drove around Zlín for more than 700 km to test and measure network optimization. The installation of 3G transmitters in the former factory, Svit Zlín, was the most demanding in terms of access, while most interesting in terms of Zlín's history.”

By the end of this year Vodafone’s 3G signal will cover a total of 60 towns and villages, including all of the regional capitals. By the end of October 2010, it will cover others like Příbram, Chlumec, Prostějov, Sokolov, Trutnov, Kroměříž, Přerov, Chrudim and Frýdek – Místek.

Vodafone is using the newest HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) technology from Huawei to run its 3G network. That technology allows mobile Internet connections with speeds of up to 7.2 Mb/s for download and up to 2 Mb/s upload.

Thanks to 3G, customers will be able to surf the Internet from their notebook or from their mobile phone realistically 10 to 15 times faster than with the previous EDGE technology. Customers won’t pay anything extra for this increase in speed, as 3G will be part of the current data tariff scheme.

The ‘Steady Connect’ data tariff, which is ideal for surfing and downloading larger amounts of data, can now be tried out by customers in Zlín for free for one month. If they then decide to continue to use the service, they get a practical USB modem for laptop Internet connections for the discounted price of CZK 77.

Aside from its 3G network, Vodafone also offers its 2G – EDGE network, which is now available to more than 95% of the Czech population.

About Vodafone Czech Republic

Vodafone (formerly Oskar) received a license of the operation of a GSM mobile telecommunications network in October 1999. Shortly after this, it became a swiftly growing operator and set a new record in the history of GSM – after nine months, its signal covered 98% of the population of the Czech Republic. In 2002, the company welcomed its millionth customer, and in 2005, it acquired its license for building and operating a 3G-standard network. In that same year, it became part of the world’s leading telecommunications company, Vodafone Group. Today it provides services to over three million business and private customers. The company is also active in the field of corporate responsibility and in 2006 it founded the Vodafone Czech Republic Foundation, through which it has distributed more than 50 million crowns to the non-profit sector.
