Vodafone is the most responsible business in the Czech Republic

Vodafone took first place in the category ‘Large Companies’ in a competition for the most socially responsible company, called the CSR Award, which, for 2009, was given by the consulting agency, M.C. Triton. After a two-time victory in the Czech round of the European awards for social responsibility, this is for Vodafone, the third prestigious award for socially responsible activities. "Vodafone is an organization that believes that having concrete, socially responsible activities is an important part of how we do business," says Muriel Anton, CEO of Vodafone Czech Republic.

Triton. After a two-time victory in the Czech round of the European awards for social responsibility, this is for Vodafone, the third prestigious award for socially responsible activities.

The professional jury, which declared Vodafone the most responsible company, was comprised, among others, by Dagmar Havlová, founder of the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation, VIZE 97, Pavlína Kalousová, Director of the Donors’ Forum, Tereza Maxová, patron of the Tereza Maxová Foundation and Tomáš Nejedlo, Director of the Business Leaders Forum.

The competing companies were judged according to their approach to CSR, specific projects, their activities and especially on how their CSR lined up with the strategy of the company.

Vodafone´s CSR concept lies in linking up the activities with everyday business and involving the top management as well as employees into those activities, so that even in their free time, they have a sense of fairness and consideration for the environment and community. The imperative to do business responsibly is embedded in company´s strategy.

Vodafone Czech Republic’s significant CSR activities:

  • 30 % of Vodafone´s network runs on energy from renewable resources.
  • Worldwide, Vodafone Group has made a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions to 50 % till 2012.
  • 1/4 of all employees including top management take part in volunteer projects.
  • For two years allready, we have been dedicating the entire surface of pre-paid cards to free advertising of nonprofit projects.
  • Vodafone plants a tree for each customer with electronic billing only.
  • Vodafone Foundation supports long term knowledge transfer from business to non-commercial sector through “World of difference” grant programme, where it has paid nine professionals from the commercial sector to work for a year for a nonprofit organization.
  • Vodafone headquarters in Prague received an EcoMark from the Environment Ministry for the administrative operation.
  • Vodafone Foundation has distributed more than 50 million CZK to non profit projects nationwide since its establishment in 2006.
