Vodafone has decided to celebrate its tenth birthday by donating blood to the Czech Republic. Vodafone employees started with a donation in May and were attended by more than a hundred first donors including the CEO. Now everyone has the opportunity to join them. Information about donation locations, educational videos and facts about organ donation for those interested can be found on the donor site www.darujem.cz. During September there will also be a media campaign, whose main motto is: "We're the same blood group."
"We decided to celebrate our tenth birthday differently by donating blood," said Přemysl Filip, Senior Manager for Social Responsibility at Vodafone and adds: "Based on personal experience, I can confirm that donating blood is easy and the feeling that comes from donating is very nice."
"There is always a shortage of voluntary blood donors. For that reason, we are pleased that Vodafone has decided to support blood donations, not only from its employees, but also through the donor website and media campaigns," says Dr. Daniela Dušková, head physician of the transfusion department at the General Hospital in Prague.
There‘s an established cooperation with transfusion stations across the country and the first donors will be rewarded with a small gift - badges with their blood group. For the first two thousand people who sign up on www.darujem.cz, there are also silicone bracelets that read 'We're the same blood group'.
On September 1st, Vodafone launched a media campaign for the donation project. At Vodafone shops and transfusion stations, there will be a picture memory game available to people, on Facebook, thanks to a special app, everyone will be able to put their blood type on their profile picture, and the September issue of ČiliChili magazine will be devoted to this theme throughout. The campaign will also run on television, radio and print, and we're preparing an interactive blood roadshow in several cities throughout the country. The Lemonade agency participated in the creation of this campaign.
Vodafone is attracting donor support from its business partners as well and if they get involved, they will be able to promote themselves on the donor site Darujem.cz.
About Vodafone Czech Republic
Vodafone (originally Oskar) won its license to operate a mobile GSM telecommunications network in October 1999. Shortly thereafter, it became the fastest growing operator and set a new record in the history of GSM – in 9 months it covered 98% of the Czech population with its signal. In 2002, the company reached the one million-customer mark and, in 2005, it won the license to build and operate a 3G network. In the same year, it became part of the world’s leading telecommunications company, Vodafone Group. Today, it provides services to more than three million corporate and retail customers. The company is also active in Corporate Social Responsibility: the proof of which is its public commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2020, obtaining the certificate of ‘Environmentally Friendly Services’ as the first major company in the Czech Republic and the establishment of the Vodafone Czech Republic Foundation, through which it has distributed more than 50 million crowns to the nonprofit sector. Vodafone won the Corporate Social Responsibility award in 2008 and 2010. More information on www.vodafone.cz.
