Vodafone began to contribute to Green energy

26. March 2008

From February 2008, Vodafone joined the Green energy project, committing itself to contribute a bit extra to its electric bill, which will be used to support renewable energy. In 2008, the Green energy program from the ČEZ group will cover around 20% of Vodafone’s entire electricity use. Vodafone is one of the first of fifty large companies in the Czech Republic, where with a 10 heller contribution per kilowatt hour added to the regular price for electricity, financially supports beneficial projects aimed at the research, education, and use of renewable energy, like solar, hydroelectric, wind and biomass. ”Our contribution to Green energy expands Vodafone’s corporate responsibility activities in the ecological sphere. In terms of improving the environment, Vodafone also contributes through its telephone recycling scheme, our regional employee volunteer activities, which include our top management, and our practical example campaign, like how to treat the environment more considerately,” says Přemysl Filip, Vodafone’s Senior Manager for Corporate Responsibility.

Vodafone has, for a long time, aspired to make its activities responsible and minimize its impact on the environment. In the war against climate change, the entire Vodafone group has voluntarily committed itself to reduce its energy consumption by 40% per unit of data transfer by 2011. Part of this financial savings will go to the Green energy project.

Vodafone, through its own “green” projects, collects money directly to support the environment. Thanks to our recycling of old mobile phones, each mobile, which anyone can drop off at one of our shops, donates 3 euros on average to a specific ecological project of the Vodafone Czech Republic Foundation. Last year, the Foundation received almost CZK 270 thousand in this manner.
