Tomáš Mátl leads the new Media Solutions department at Vodafone

28. July 2008

A little while ago, the Media Solutions department was created, headed by Tomáš Mátl, whose goal is to keep Vodafone in the lead in mobile advertising. This should, along with existing advertising media (print and web), allow the operator to build new revenue streams. With the expansion of this team, Vodafone will become a standalone and significant media house. “Our department currently has two main tasks: to increase corporate earnings from telecommunications services stemming from ad revenue in our media portfolio and, at the same time, to prove that it’s possible to make money from ads through various telecommunications services. In the future, we want to concentrate on increasing the value of our advertising products for advertisers – for example, interactivity, enabling real-time feedback to a given campaign – and at the same time, building a wider awareness of mobile ads in the media world,” says Tomáš Mátl, Media Solutions Department Director at Vodafone Czech Republic.

The Media Solutions Department will work on the development of advertising products that combine the various media that Vodafone has at its disposal. It doesn’t want to be considered only as an advertising space owner, but also, for example, to work together on the graphic content of a campaign or enable customers the direct purchase of a given product.

During its brief existence so far, the department has managed to bring unique and successful mobile products to market, like interactive banners on the Vodafone live! portal, sponsored mobile games, and the Student SMS Gratis service.

Vodafone’s current media channels:

  • Student SMS gratis – 80,000 registered users
  • Vodafone live! Portal – 270,000 unique visitors / month
  • SMS gateway – 1,000,000 individual users / month
  • www.vodafone.cz – 1.9 million unique visitors / month
  • Čilichili magazine – monthly print run of 140,000 copies

Tomáš Mátl came to Vodafone Czech Republic in 2005 as chief architect in the Technology Department, where he created the concepts of technical network development and information systems based on corporate strategy and planning. Before that, he worked at Accenture as a consultant to implement systems that helped corporate strategy. He usually spends his free time with family and friends, traveling and taking pictures.
