OSKAR’S COVERAGE NOW COMPARABLE TO THE OTHER CZECH MOBILE PHONE OPERATORS

15. November 2000

Oskar, the youngest mobile operator on the Czech market, has reached after only nine months after commercial launch and 13 months after license award signal coverage, which is comparable with that of the existing mobile operators in the Czech Republic. As of today, Oskar’s network is now available to over 98% of the Czech population. „Today’s coverage announcement demonstrates, once again, Oskar’s ability to deliver high quality service ahead of schedule and in excess of both expectations and requirements. In cooperation with Ericsson and Siemens, Oskar has managed to cover more than 98% of the population in record time, allowing customers to call practically anywhere in the Czech Republic and to 55 roaming partners in 28 countries,” says Jon Eddy, Oskar’s Chief Technical Officer. By building out its network within such a tight time frame and at such a high quality standard, Oskar has not only managed to set GSM records, but also to meet all license requirements set by the Czech Telecommunications Office for 2001.

Having this far-reaching signal strength and availability enables Oskar to focus on developing new services, including third-generation technologies, which help fulfill its vision to always offer the best value over time. The up-to-date coverage also gives Oskar a very optimistic prospect of increasing its market share, which currently exceeds 5%.

„As of today, Oskar’s services are available to everyone in the Czech Republic,“ says Karla Stephens, Oskar’s Chief Commercial Officer. „We believe that the increased coverage will help make Oskar’s very special Christmas offer attractive to customers from Kralovice, Smrzovka, Bezno and other towns and cities where Oskar coverage has recently been added.“
