Oskar recorded EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortizaton) of $1,0 million in Q1 2002, its first positive EBITDA since launching full commercial operation. This strong performance reflects the revenue impact of rapid subscriber growth, commitment to operational excellence and economies of scale. Oskar added 128,700 net subscribers in the first quarter reaching 987,100 customers, a year-over-year increase of 145%.

Two years after launching its commercial operations, Oskar has attained a goal that few thought was achieveable – it has put its business in the black. Oskar recorded EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortizaton) of $1,0 million in Q1 2002, its first positive EBITDA since launching full commercial operation.

This strong performance reflects the revenue impact of rapid subscriber growth, commitment to operational excellence and economies of scale.

Oskar added 128,700 net subscribers in the first quarter reaching 987,100 customers, a year-over-year increase of 145%. Service revenues more than doubled to $42.7 million compared to $20.5 million for the first quarter of last year.

“Reaching positive EBITDA after reaching 1 million subscribers transforms Cesky Mobil from start-up phase to a fully stabilized and highly successful operation,“ says Muriel Anton, Vice President of Finance & Support Services. „Oskar actively challenges conventions and looks for innovative ways to win its customers. Oskar has also demonstrated that profitability can be achieved even when fair prices are offered to customers,“ adds Muriel Anton

Oskar has increased its market share to over 13% as of March 31, 2002. On April 16, 2002, Oskar activated its 1,000,000th customer.

Cesky Mobil became the first dual-band (GSM 900/1800) network operator in the Czech Republic after being granted its license in October 1999. It launched commercial operation of its leading edge GSM network on March 1, 2000 under the brand name Oskar. By April 2002 Oskar acquired over 1,000,000 subscribers becoming one of the fastest growing third license operators in Europe! At present, Oskar is the only operator in the Czech Republic to constantly increase its market share.
