OSKAR HELPS STUDENT PETR ZAHRÁDKA TO BRING HIS FEATURE FILM TO LIFE

15. September 2004

A new Czech feature film will be created from a concept authored by FAMU student Petr Zahrádka. How do we know? Because he won Oskar’s ,Make Scenes, contest for the best film story idea. He not only receives a prize of CZK 77,777, but more importantly his story will become the basis for a feature film, financed by Oskar to the tune of at least eight million crowns. Zahrádka won with a story called Our Life. Its basis is an attractive environment for a reality show.

The jury, made up of members of the Czech Film and Television Academy, also selected another six film stories from the 774 entries for production of an additional six short films. Leading Czech film schools will cooperate in their creation. These six runner-up winners will also receive digital video cameras valued at CZK 20,000.

"The Make Scenes project is another way that Oskar tries to inspire talented people to fulfill their dreams, which might not happen without help," says Igor Přerovský, Oskar's vice president for brand and communications, adding, "Clearly, there are many people with creative potential who have something to say. It is proven also by the fact that no movie professional has gotten thru the anonymous selection. Some of them did not hide that they sent their topics to the contest."

Selected film production companies will also benefit from this project. Oskar will invite leading producers on the Czech market, to take part in a tender for the chance to shoot a film based on Zahrádka's story.

The talented authors who did not succeed this year can start sharpening their pencils, fill their fountain pens, and put new ribbons in their typewriters. "Based on the strong initial success in this, our first year, we want to continue with this project next year as well," Přerovský explains.
