Ante Rupcic, an experienced manager with a strong international background, was appointed new Vice President Engineering and Network Operations at Oskar Effective November 12th, Ante Rupcic becomes the new Vice President of Engineering and Network Operations at Oskar. His role will be to oversee the development of Oskar’s network, guide the launching of various next generation services and lead the UMTS license acquisition and planning programs. “My job is to ensure further development of our record-breaking network, which was built in less than a year from Oskar’s commercial launch.“ says Ante Rupcic. “With the arrival of a new generation of services, my team and I want to ensure full network stability and its further growth according to new technological standards.

Effective November 12th, Ante Rupcic becomes the new Vice President of Engineering and Network Operations at Oskar. His role will be to oversee the development of Oskar’s network, guide the launching of various next generation services and lead the UMTS license acquisition and planning programs.

Ante, 39 years old, has been with Oskar since the company bid for the third Czech GSM license in July 1999. While he served as Director of Engineering, he helped to launch one of the fastest growing GSM networks in the world, covering 45% of population in three months and 88 percent of population in 9 months. Later on, as Director of New Technologies, Ante supported the launching of WAP, WAP Portal, Mobile Payment, and other services.

Prior to joining Oskar, Ante acquired significant managerial, technical and business development experience with strong international exposure. He served as a Director or Senior Manager for Telesystems International’s projects in Brazil, Romania and China. Prior to this, Ante held various managerial and engineering positions in Mobility Canada, Bell Mobility and Nortel Canada.

Cesky Mobil became the first dual-band (GSM 900/1800) network operator in the Czech Republic after being granted its license in October 1999. It launched commercial operation of its leading edge GSM network on March 1, 2000 under the brand name Oskar. The end of September 2001 saw Oskar with in excess of 680,000 subscribers making it one of the leading, third license operators in Central Europe! At the World Communication Awards in August 2001, Oskar was a nominee for the Best Mobile Operator award.
