OSKAR ACCELERATES ITS EXPANSION

02. May 2001

Oskar’s successful arrival on the Czech market last year continues to drive dynamic growth in Oskar’s subscriber base in the first quarter this year. Oskar added 101,300 net subscribers, increasing the total number of subscribers to 403,000 after only 13 months of full operation. During the quarter, Oskar made progress towards its objective of increasing its post-paid customer base, as 38% of its net additions subscribed to post-paid services. “These are strong results, both in terms of subscriber growth and financial performance. They reflect acceleration of our momentum in the Czech Republic after a year of full commercial activity,” said Alexander Tolstoy, Oskar’s Chief Executive Officer.

“Since the first quarter is traditionally the weakest period in the year for our industry, these results are very encouraging for the rest of the year.”

Oskar introduced a range of new innovative services in the first quarter of 2001. Oskar became the first operator on the Czech mobile market to offer the possibility of complete account administration through a chain of over 100 ATMs. In addition, Oskar’s WAP has been expanded with new features and in March Oskar introduced SMS e-mail and SMS Chat. Oskar’s new prefix 0777 is also fast becoming a symbol of the latest in mobile services for demanding consumers and business clients.

The success of Oskar’s business strategy has been recognized by the „Mobile operators in Central Europe“ analysis made in March by leading broker Wood & Company: „Český Mobil exceeded all expectations and is on the best way to becoming the world’s most successful third mobile operator.“

Oskar’s focus on direct distribution, and our commitment to fast-paced roll-out of new services has culminated in recent results that are already ahead of forecast. It confirms success of our strategy in the Czech republic and positions Oskar for further dynamic growth this year,“ says Karla Stephens, Oskar’s Senior Vice-President.

Český Mobil a.s. became the third mobile network operator in the Czech Republic after being granted a GSM 900/1800 dual band license by the Czech government in October 1999 and launched commercial operations on March 1, 2000 under the brand name Oskar.

Český Mobil a.s. is a member of telecommunications group of Canadian-based Telesystem International Wireless (TIW). TIW is a rapidly-growing, global mobile communications operator with over 4.1 million subscribers worldwide. The Company's shares are listed on theToronto Stock Exchange ("TIW") and NASDAQ ("TIWI").
