MMS surpasses the classic greeting card as a Christmas wish

23. November 2009

This Christmas, Czechs will send more MMS messages than classic Christmas greeting cards. MMS greeting cards surpassed them last year. This year, 42 percent of people plan to send MMS messages at Christmas, while only 38 percent plan to send classic greeting cards. Just like last year, two thirds of Czechs plan to send Christmas greetings via MMS, classic greeting card, or email. This information comes from the results of the online Vodafone Zoom survey.

This is the first time in the last five years that MMS messages have won out in this way. People take photos with their mobiles often, but until now, only a small number of them have been sending their photos to others.

“Ninety-seven percent of people who have camera phones use them regularly. Nearly half of them, however, only share their photos by showing them to others on the displays of their mobiles,” says Lukáš Kružberský, Consumer Marketing Director, Vodafone, adding, “High prices in particular dissuade people from sending their photos via MMS. Vodafone has permanently reduced the price of one MMS to CZK 4.50. At Christmas, we are also giving all customers the gift of over three hundred free MMS.”

Survey results indicate that people consider CZK 4.50 to CZK 5 as an ideal price for one MMS.

The most frequent MMS recipients are family members, friends, and partners. The number of MMS senders and receivers is about the same.

Over half the respondents always, or usually, save MMS messages. These are usually students and younger people. Only three percent of respondents never save any MMS messages. A quarter of the respondents said that in the past they often deleted their MMS messages by mistake.

The Vodafone Zoom survey about the use of MMS messages was conducted for Vodafone by the Data Collect agency. Seven hundred respondents participated in the survey.
