New-generation electronic cash desks and mobile payment terminals
Modern technologies will allow even small entrepreneurs to accept contactless payments Česká spořitelna, MasterCard, Vodafone and Wincor Nixdorf are introducing comprehensive mobile platforms which make it possible for small entrepreneurs to accept contactless payments and issue electronic bills. Being ready for the planned Electronic Sales Registration Act, these new-generation solutions will allow small entrepreneurs to make online submissions of sales information towards the Financial Administration. According to the latest estimates, the Act which prescribes registration of sales information and submission of such information towards the Financial Administration will concern approximately 500 to 600 thousand businesses and is supposed to come into force next year.
However, the Electronic Sales Registration Act is actually not the only reason for entrepreneurs to invest in these solutions. The number of payment cards is constantly increasing. At the moment, there are more than 11 million payment cards in the Czech Republic. Only during the last year, people paid CZK 326.4 mld. with payment cards at local retailers. That is to say, CZK 29,594 was paid with one payment card on the average. While people show a growing tendency to use payment cards for their shopping, now that there is contactless payment, they tend to pay even smaller amounts with them. According to the latest MasterCard MasterIndex survey, more than a third of the respondents consider it usual to pay amounts lower than CZK 50 with a payment card and 72 per cent of those who regularly use a payment card prefer contactless payment. Modern devices for accepting cards have thus become a necessity.
Česká spořitelna, MasterCard, Vodafone and Wincor Nixdorf are responding to the growing demand for contactless payments at small merchants and entrepreneurs, including those who offer their products and services at farmers' markets, fast food stands or small local stores, for example. The companies are now introducing three effective tools for different kinds of businesses: Vodafone eCashDesk, mPOS and Albert.
Vodafone eCashDesk
Entrepreneurs who already use a smartphone or a tablet won't need any other device to use the service. They can simply instal the application on their existing device and use it for electronic sales registration. This basic solution is particularly suitable for merchants selling their goods or services outdoors, e.g. at markets.
Furthermore, the application can be connected to a mobile payment terminal (mPOS), which allows the merchant to accept payment cards. When connected to a battery-operated portable printer, the device enables fast and low-cost printing of bills. The technology of eCashDesk was developed by Wincor Nixdorf. The service is going to cost approximately a few hundred crowns per month.
Mobile payment terminal of Česká spořitelna (mPOS)
This is a payment terminal which communicates through an application installed in a smartphone or a tablet and is used as a simple payment registration system. Retailers can accept both contact and contactless payment cards, as well as payments made via NFC phones, stickers, etc. It is particularly suitable for small retailers who look for a mobile, fast, simple and user-friendly solution.
To provide support for mPOS terminals in the Czech Republic, Česká spořitelna and Wincor Nixdorf have launched a special website at www.MobilniTerminal.cz where you can order the device.
The device, which becomes the retailer´s property, costs a few thousand crowns. The authorization and transaction fees are proportionate to the use of the mPOS device (average transaction amount and number or transactions).
Albert device
The interactive multifunctional Albert device made by Wincor Nixdorf is suitable for restaurants and bigger brick-and-mortar stores. While the basic configuration costs CZK 28,000 without VAT, the full version should not exceed CZK 34,000 without VAT. Albert is going to be sold as an independent device, offering a number of integrated functionalities, such as a secure multifunctional terminal for accepting payment cards. When using the services of other business partners, entrepreneurs can get up to a 50 per cent discount.
