Customers use the Vodafone SMS gateway to send 15 million SMS per month, even from abroad

Every month over 640,000 people use the Vodafone web gateway to send short text messages to numbers in the operator’s network in exchange for viewing advertisements. Each of them send an average of 23 SMS per month. Therefore, altogether customers send 15 million SMS per month. Czechs also use this gateway’s services in Slovakia, Italy, and the USA. Such companies as Allianz Direct, Aukro, and Hypoteční banka have placed campaigns in the SMS gateway.

“Since we took over the sale of advertising in special channels and simplified ad space administration considerably by using the Bbelements Ad Server system, revenues from advertising on the web SMS gateway have multiplied,” says Tomáš Mátl, head of Media Solutions, Vodafone Czech Republic, adding, “Some positions are sold up to several months in advance.”

The Vodafone web SMS gateway is one of the longest-functioning SMS gateways on the market. It can be used to send an unlimited number of SMS messages to numbers in the Vodafone network. There is massive interest in this service, which is also evident owing to the fact that Czechs use it abroad as well. 1% of customers use its services in Slovakia, 1% in Italy, and half a percent use it to send SMS messages from the USA.

Advertising on the SMS gateway offers businesses the opportunity to address a massive number of people and the opportunity to advertise very effectively on standard and non-standard spaces.

Customers use the SMS gateway most often during the day; traffic decreases between midnight and 5:00 am, while it reaches its highest peak between 8:00 and 9:00 pm, during which time up to 120,000 customers visit the page.

Vodafone also offers advertisers other channels such as the Vodafone live! portal, SMS advertisements, and the new Ozvi se SMS (Please call me service) advertising channel, which enables customers to send an SMS in exchange for viewing an advertisement even when they don’t have credit. Contrarily, usage of the formerly popular SMS Grátis service is on the decline, as its customers, primarily students, now prefer chatting in social networks to sending SMS messages.
