Vodafone to build a new ecological headquarters in Prague

08. July 2011

Vodafone has chosen a new site for its future headquarters. It will move from Strašnice, Prague 10, to a brand new building, City West, to be built for Vodafone by Finep and located at the very entrance to the metro station in Stodůlky, Prague 5. Vodafone will start to use the new headquarters from January 2015. The company’s increasing ecological requirements are one of the reasons for the planned move. The new headquarters will be one of the first office buildings in Prague to hold the LEED certificate (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Also, thanks to the building’s ecological qualities the mobile operator will achieve significant long-term operation savings. To choose the place for the new site, Vodafone has cooperated with the real estate consultants, Cushman&Wakefield.

„Ecology and proximity to the metro which makes transportation easy for the employees were the main criteria of the selection. We launched the First Green Network and equipped our car fleet with hybrid and electric cars to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Ecologically friendly headquarters are a natural next step towards even more cost and ecologically efficient operation,“ commented Muriel Anton, Vodafone CEO.

The current headquarters cannot provide such standards although even in this building it has been possible to activate a more cost-efficient regime that enables the mobile operator to achieve savings in utilities and use energy from renewable sources. For these and other environmental initiatives Vodafone was the first big company in the Czech Republic to obtain the eco-mark for Ecologically Friendly Services.

Thanks to the technologies in accordance with the LEED certification, Vodafone will achieve a significant reduction in energy costs, mainly for heating and cooling. The energy consumption of the new building will be lower by two thirds compared to ordinary buildings of a similar size. In its new building, Vodafone will also maximize the use of recycled materials and local resources.

The current contract of lease in the Vinice area, Prague, where the headquarters of Vodafone have been located since 2000 will expire at the beginning of 2015. The construction works at the new office building will begin in 2012.
