Vodafone helps seniors live an active life
Vodafone and CleverTech offer a unique monitoring service system Senior Inspect – Vodafone Edition. This mobile communication device has been developed by Czech scientists with the support of the Vodafone Foundation. Senior Inspect allows users to call for assistance in case of emergency, locates their position and monitors their daily routine. The device is constantly connected to the emergency assistance control desk, allowing seniors to live an independent life in their home and the freedom of movement outside the house.
“We want to help seniors live an active life and move around with safety wherever they are used to. The device allows to monitor the user’s activity and, in case of emergency, locate his or her position and call for assistance,” says Přemysl Filip, Senior Manager for Corporate Responsibility at Vodafone.
Senior Inspect is functionally very similar to a simple mobile phone. It is able to detect an emergency situation even without the user’s pressing the safety button. In case of detecting longer immobility or non-standard device status, the sensor unit sets off an alarm. A control desk operator immediately establishes verbal contact with the monitored person to find out about their condition and rule out a false alarm. Depending on the situation, the operator contacts the family or the ambulance service. It is expected that the device will be purchased not only by seniors, but also by family members for their parents or grandparents.
The monitoring device communicates with the control desk via GPRS and SMS. It uses the GSM signal for calls and is able to locate the user through the GSM network.
The CleverTech company is also developing bluetooth connection to medical instruments measuring, for example, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, ECG or temperature.
