Vodafone offers its own brand of solar charger
Vodafone added its own outdoor solar charger to its portfolio today, making it the first operator on the market to do so. This charger can be used to conveniently charge a mobile phone while in the countryside. By introducing this product, Vodafone is further working towards fulfilling its commitment to cutting its CO2 emissions in half by 2020. “While charging a mobile phone with the assistance of solar energy, this charger does not release even a gram of CO2 into the atmosphere,” says Přemysl Filip, Senior Manager of Social Responsibility, Vodafone, adding, “The solar charger is a practical outdoor companion on trips, whether you’re roaming through exotic countries or hiking the snow-covered trails of Jeseníky.” After placing the solar charger under direct sunlight for around three hours, it is possible to charge a mobile phone with enough energy for up to 15 minutes of calling time or two days of standby.

The compact Mono-V solar charger, available for CZK 499 with VAT, contains solar cells designed to charge a built-in Li-Ion battery that stays charged for several months and enables partial charging of a mobile phone with the press of one button. In the first phase, the solar charger is being offered at ten Vodafone brand stores throughout the Czech Republic. It is also possible to buy them through Vodafone Sales at 800 777 777.
The solar charger is contributing to Vodafone’s fulfillment of its commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by half by 2020. Other measures that Vodafone Czech Republic is taking in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 615 tons per year are:
- Reducing the energy demands of the network
- Buying Green Energy from the ČEZ Group
- Ecological preparation of parcels with the DHL Go Green program
- Using hybrids as company vehicles; these cars are more environmentally friendly
- Motivating customers to use electronic billing instead of paper billing (for each customer of the Po Svém service, a tree is planted in Šumava and Beskydy)
- Cooperation with technology and software providers in developing energy-saving devices
- A portfolio of ecological products for customers
