Vodafone expands its mobile internet network with 3G

Vodafone Czech Republic expands its existing mobile internet network to include UMTS. The operator will start the build-up in Prague and will continue in succesive steps to cover areas with relevant customer demand. Customers will be able for the first time to use Vodafone´s UMTS network in selected parts of Prague in first quarter of 2009. Thanks to current Christmas offer customers can use mobile internet in their mobiles until the end of July for free. „Succesive 3G build-up reflects current customers demand for mobile broadband and guarantees the best customer experience with regard to price and quality,“ says Muriel Anton, CEO of Vodafone Czech republic and adds „It is one of the neccessary steps to fulfil our UMTS license.

„Current 3G is a natural step on the way to LTE technology,“ says Pavel Kos, Vice President for Technology of Vodafone Czech republic and adds: „2009 will be year of internet in mobile. We bring to customers new Vodafone live! internet portal straight to their mobiles We expect that demand for internet in mobile will significantly rise thanks to this offer.“

Vodafone will start to build its UMTS network on the current Nokia Siemens Network platform, which will be gradually upgraded.

„We will use a special Vodafone branded helicopter for the intial build-up in Prague, as it is much more efficient and cost effective way compared to usage of traditional mobile cranes, which usually cause lot of inconveniences to inhabitans in the build-up area,“ says Pavel Kos, Vice President for Technology of Vodafone Czech republic.
