Vodafone employees send their benefits to Japan

21. March 2011

Vodafone employees can send their benefit points to help Japan, where a week ago, an earthquake of magnitude 9.0 on the Richter scale triggered a tsunami. Each Vodafone employee has 13 500 points yearly, which are equivalent to 13 500 crowns. Employees can help Japan by sending either part or all of their benefit points. They are then credited to the account of some of the humanitarian organizations working there.

"Vodafone, as a socially responsible company, is always prepared to quickly and flexibly respond to emergencies. Last year, in a very short time, we created a collection for earthquake victims in Haiti and now our employees can use their benefit points to help Japan," says Přemysl Filip, Senior Manager for Corporate Responsibility at Vodafone.

Employees can send their benefit points to the accounts of three humanitarian organizations, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and ADRA. These organizations either work directly there or have built an infrastructure that allows them to distribute aid effectively.

Vodafone and Corporate Responsibility

Vodafone operates the first Green Network, which specifically meets its public commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by half by 2020. Since 2009, it has dedicated the entire space on its recharge coupons to the promotion of SMS donor projects (DMS). The volunteer program allows employees to work in the nonprofit sector at the expense of Vodafone. The flagship program of the Vodafone Czech Republic Foundation, ‘World of Difference’, which through grant programs to nonprofit organizations has, over the past 5 years, distributed over CZK 60 million aiming to link the non-profit and commercial sectors.
