The Vodafone Foundation announce the Grahame Maher Award

07. July 2011

The Vodafone Group Foundation today announced the Grahame Maher award, in order to memorialize one of the most active leaders of the company, who had long served as CEO of Vodafone in the Czech Republic. This award should support the global grant program "World of Difference", which aims to transfer know-how from the commercial to the nonprofit sector. The Grahame Maher award is open to any of the 1500 world-wide winners of the Vodafone Foundation's "World of Difference" program. The winner of this award will receive Ł100 000 to continue their engagement in a non-profit organization. "For Grahame, socially responsible activities at Vodafone were absolutely crucial, as evidenced by the fact that the establishment of the Vodafone Foundation was the very first activity after the Vodafone takeover of Oskar," says current director of the Vodafone Foundation, Ondřej Zapletal and continues: "Few people also know that Grahame launched the "World of Difference" grant program in New Zealand.

The "World of Difference" grant program, the flagship of the Vodafone Foundation around the world, aims to personally strengthen the long-term non-profit sector. Every year, it gives the possibility to six professionals from the commercial sector to spend a year working for the nonprofit organization of their choice for the same salary, to which they were accustomed during their involvement in business. More than ten candidates can work in a nonprofit for several months.
