People responded to Vodafone’s appeal by collecting over 85 thousand keys
Between October 30th and November 30th, people from all over the Czech Republic brought 85,741 keys to Vodafone, creating the largest public key collection in the world. A six-meter installation piece by the artist, Jiří David, will be made from the collected keys. The installation will be placed in an as yet unknown public space. From the beginning of December, people can go to www.klicovasocha.
From the beginning of December, people can go to www.klicovasocha.cz to follow not only the creation of the “key sculptures”, but also send their wishes and suggestions for the future location of the sculptures and discuss similar related topics.
So far there have been over a hundred different suggestions as to where to place the sculptures. Until now, people’s placement suggestions have been evenly balanced between both large and small cities from all over the Czech Republic. Jiří David will evaluate the suggestions and choose the ones that most interest him. The object will then be dedicated to the region or city where the public and its representatives show the most interest in the sculptures. The final placement of the sculptures will depend on concrete negotiations with the appropriate local authorities.
Along with the wider public, Vodafone employees also participated in the collection by donating almost 22,000 keys, and the ASSA ABLOY Czech & Slovakia company, which owns the FAB brand, donated 20,000 keys.
