Two years, one month and ten days after commercial launch Oskar achieved a milestone of historic importance, which only few European third operators can boast about. The number of subscribers who opted for Oskar as the best solution to their communication needs has just exceeded 1,000,000.

„By acquiring 1,000,000 subscribers, Oskar has surpassed a significant corporate milestone,“ says Karla Stephens, Senior Vice President at Oskar. „Despite its position as one of the big and well established companies on the market, Oskar will not accept the status quo and conventions of the telecommunication industry. We are dedicated to bringing new solutions that will make sense to the customer,“ she adds.

According to a study performed by DiamondCluster Int., Oskar’s market share puts it in the Top 4 of Europe’s third mobile operators, leaving behind renowned companies such as One2One (Great Britain), E-Plus (Germany), Finnet (Finland), Bouygues (France), Vodafone Hungary and Telia DK (Denmark). DiamondCluster claims that the secret behind Oskar’s success is the concept of „quality services at affordable prices“, a strong brand, a simple and transparent tariff structure, easy-to-use services and an extraordinarily fast network build-out.

Oskar’s achievement looks even more remarkable when compared to the performance of the other two Czech operators. After two years from GSM network build-out, Oskar’s competitors had acquired only 450,000 and 300,000 customers respectively, representing between a half to a third of Oskar’s subscriber base.

Subscriber numbers is just one of the areas of Oskar’s excellent performance. For the second consecutive year, Oskar has exceeded its plans also in other key areas:

  • Total revenues have grown nearly fivefold to USD 125.9 mil (an equivalent of CZK 4.8 bln) in 2001.
  • Oskar’s brand awareness exceeds 90% in the long term.
  • Subscriber loyalty has risen to 93%.
  • Oskar’s advertising has won over 20 prestigious awards at domestic and international advertising festivals and competitions.
  • According to an independent study by the Technical University in Brno (commissioned by a competitive operator) Oskar provides the best coverage in cities.

Cesky Mobil became the first dual-band (GSM 900/1800) network operator in the Czech Republic after being granted its license in October 1999. It launched commercial operation of its leading edge GSM network on March 1, 2000 under the brand name Oskar. By April 2002 Oskar has become the choice of over 1.000.000 customers, making it one of the leading, third license operators in Central Europe!

Through the ClearWave holding, Český Mobil a.s. is a member of the telecommunications group of Canadian-based Telesystem International Wireless (TIW). The Company's shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange ("TIW") and NASDAQ ("TIWI").
