Oskar added 84,200 net subscribers for the second quarter, to reach 1,071,300 subscribers, an increase of 98% compared to 540,100 subscribers at the end of the second quarter of 2001. Oskar estimates it held a 14% share of the national cellular market as of June 30, 2002, compared to a 10% share at the same time last year.

“During the past 12 months, management estimates cellular penetration in the Czech Republic increased to 75.3% from 54.1% at the end of the second quarter of 2001,” stated Karla Stephens, Chief Operational Officer of Český Mobil a.s. “Oskar acquired 531.200 new customers and represents the only one Czech operator with consistent market growth,” added Stephens.

“In the first half of 2002 Oskar entered with two specialized tariffs for the business segment,” stated Karla Stephens. Oskar now provides services for White and Case, Contactel, OMV, ABB, Canon, Czech Statistical Office, Regional Offices Vysocina and Karlovy Vary and other companies and institutions. “We also see increase of value added services usage including high-speed data transmission services - GPRS,” added Stephens.

During the first half of this year Oskar introduced new tariff plans and number of innovative services including GPRS and SMS based services. 2nd quarter service revenues nearly doubled to $53.5 million compared to $27.5 million for the second quarter of 2001. Český Mobil recorded in Q2 EBITDA of $3.9 million, its second consecutive quarter of positive EBITDA, compared to negative EBITDA of $11.0 million for the same period last year.

For the first six months, service revenues doubled to reach $96.2 million compared to $48.1 million for the same period in 2001.

Cesky Mobil became the first dual-band (GSM 900/1800) network operator in the Czech Republic after being granted its license in October 1999. It launched commercial operation of its leading edge GSM network on March 1, 2000 under the brand name Oskar. By April 2002 Oskar acquired over 1,000,000 subscribers becoming one of the fastest growing third license operators in Europe! At present, Oskar is the only operator in the Czech Republic to constantly increase its market share.
