More and more Czechs enjoy spending New Year’s Eve in the mountains
According to Vodafone’s internal statistics, out of all the countries in Europe, most Czechs prefer to spend New Year’s Eve in Austria. “The roaming activities of our customers indicate that their favourite New Year’s Even destinations include Austria, Italy, France, and Slovakia,” says Martin Horčička, ředitel roamingu Vodafonu. When calling in partner networks, every minute of an outgoing call in the above-mentioned countries costs CZK 21.25 (without 19% VAT). Vodafone customers pay CZK 12 (without 19% VAT) per minute for incoming calls.

On average, Vodafone customers call rather than send text messages from abroad. Tariff customers send an average of 50% more SMS messages from abroad than prepaid card customers and make around 400% more calls.
Vodafone continues to maintain a uniform price for MMS messages. You can send pictures from your mobile phone for CZK 9.50 (without 19% VAT) from anywhere within the Czech Republic as well as from abroad.
Vodafone made roaming simpler and more transparent early this year, when it introduced the Vodafone World Roaming service. This functions on these principles:
- only three price zones – uniform prices within each zone
- cheaper outgoing calls in partner networks
- a uniform rate for incoming and outgoing roaming calls and SMS messages in each zone
Furthermore, this year the first price zone was expanded, so you can now make calls from Europe for the same price.
At the beginning of May, the global Vodafone Group vowed to reduce roaming rates on European markets by an average of 40% in comparison with the previous year by April 2007.
In the Czech Republic, Vodafone customers can also look forward to the Vodafone Passport service, in which they can make calls from selected countries at the same rate they would pay in accordance with their tariff plans in the Czech Republic and a one-time connection fee, which is less than one Euro in most countries.
