Customers decide which DMS project will receive a reward from Vodafone

29. October 2009

Vodafone is declaring November the month of donation SMS. The operator is inviting all its customers to start sending DMS before the Christmas holidays begin. Vodafone will award the two non-profit organizations that receive the most DMS with HTC Magic mobile phones and top-up coupons worth a total of 20 thousand crowns. “We want to motivate our customers to decide which DMS project we should reward,” stated Přemysl Filip, Senior Manager of Social Responsibility, Vodafone, adding, “We believe that by doing so we will help increase the number of DMS sent before Christmas and help all publicly beneficial projects.” This year, Vodafone, as a socially responsible company, decided to devote one entire communication channel to the non-profit sector for free.

This year, Vodafone, as a socially responsible company, decided to devote one entire communication channel to the non-profit sector for free. Since August it has been placing the visuals for the non-profit DMS campaigns for the Czech Union for Nature Conservation, the Center for Training Dogs for the Disabled, and Brno Sprouts (Ratolesti Brno) on its top-up coupons, and has agreed to continue this until August of next year. It has put 400 thousand such coupons into distribution and in a year this number will exceed one million units.

DMS projects that will have television campaigns in November will not be included in the evaluation. The winners will be the DMS projects with the biggest month-on-month and year-on-year growth percentage in number of DMS – that is for November compared to October 2009 and for November 2009 compared to the same month in 2008. This gives smaller non-profit organisations a chance as well. The data will be evaluated according to the number of DMS that ATS reports on a monthly basis. The Donors’ Forum, a civic association, operates the overall DMS system.

The DMS, or donation SMS, has been a secure and convenient way to make financial donations to good causes for more than five years now. The price of one DMS is CZK 30, of which the charity receives 27 crowns. A list of keywords is available at www.darcovskasms.cz. Since the origin of the DMS, over 257 million crowns has been collected through the service, and now people can also use the DMS Yearly Support service. In this case they make regular donations, always once every 30 days from the delivery of the first yearly donation SMS to the sender’s chosen project.
