ČESKY MOBIL A.S. COMMENTS ON THE FIRST ROUND OF UMTS TENDER IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Český Mobil a.s. is not participating in the first round of the UMTS tender in the Czech Republic Český Mobil has consistently expressed its interest in securing a Czech UMTS license and its willingness to pay a license fee that reflects commercially reasonable terms and conditions. However, Český Mobil advised the CTU today that it is not submitting an application in the first round of the current UMTS tender, in which licenses were offered to the three incumbent Czech GSM operators for license fees of Kč 6.7 billion, payable over two years.

However, Český Mobil advised the CTU today that it is not submitting an application in the first round of the current UMTS tender, in which licenses were offered to the three incumbent Czech GSM operators for license fees of Kč 6.7 billion, payable over two years.
Český Mobil informed Český Telekomunikační Úřad Chairman David Stadník today that Český Mobil would not be participating in the tender on the current financial terms and conditions. Český Mobil also indicated its willingness to consider changes to the official terms and conditions of the current tender, which would reflect more attractive financial terms. Český Mobil also advised the ČTÚ that it wishes to have the opportunity to participate in all further discussions and rounds of the current and any future tenders for UMTS licenses.
Český Mobil a.s. became the third mobile network operator in the Czech Republic after being granted a GSM 900/1800 dual band license by the Czech government in October 1999 and launched the commercial operation of its leading-edge GSM network s on March 1, 2000 under the brand name Oskar. At the end of second quarter 2001 Oskar had over 540.000 customers.
