A mobile, free calling, and a subscription to Deník for good deeds

26. November 2007

The Vodafone Foundation, in co-operation with Deník, is showing its appreciation for people who help others. For the Pštros (Ostrich) Award, which is starting on November 26, the companies will begin to collect nominations for people who help those around them in an original and selfless manner. The nominees can be anybody up to the age of 33 who works to help others with a volunteer non-profit organisation in the Czech Republic. First regional winners will be announced, followed by one national winner. With the help of the Pštros Award, we want to bring attention to people who are helping others but whose good deeds are going unrecognized.

With the help of the Pštros Award, we want to bring attention to people who are helping others but whose good deeds are going unrecognized. These people have decided to hide neither their heads nor their hearts in the sand. We award original approaches to providing assistance. We will collect nominations from regional non-profit organizations, from Deník readers, and through the pages of www.nadacevodafone.cz, where the complete criteria for the nominations can be found,” says Inga Kaškelyte, Director of the Vodafone Foundation.

“The more interesting the story, the better. We will present the best of these stories to our readers as articles. The readers will then decide on the national winner,” says Jan Pergler, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Deník.

A panel comprised of representatives of non-profit organizations, Deník, and the Vodafone Foundation will decide on the regional winners. Each regional winner will receive a mobile phone with calling and a one-year subscription to Deník for free. The national winner will also receive CZK 20,000. All winners will be announced in March 2008.

The Vodafone Czech Republic Foundation

The Foundation was created in 2005 and focuses especially on providing support for young people (the Vpoho and Vpohybu grant programs) and connecting communication technologies to assistance for those in need (the Vpohybu grant program). The Foundation is financed by Vodafone Czech Republic and the Vodafone Group Foundation, which coordinates Vodafone’s charity activities globally. The founding of a local Vodafone foundation and investments into charity projects is mandatory for all Vodafone branches. The Vodafone Group was rated as the world’s most socially responsible firm in 2006 (http://www.accountabilityrating.com).
