10 000TH VISITOR ON THE OSKAR SKATE RINGS

17. December 2004

Today, the Oskar Skating rink on Jiráskovo náměstí in the center of Ostrava welcomed its jubilee 10,000th skater. This is based on the overall total combined number of skaters monitored on an ongoing basis at both rinks, in Prague and Ostrava. "We're very pleased that it was Ostrava that welcomed the jubilee skater. This is the first time that we had a rink outside of Prague, and the operation so far indicates that Ostrava is slightly ahead of Prague in visitorship," says Petr Šindler, Oskar's spokesman. Skater number 10,000 was seven-year-old Terezka Dvořáková, of Slezska Ostrava.

Skater number 10,000 was seven-year-old Terezka Dvořáková, of Slezska Ostrava. She visited the Ostrava rink for the first time today with her father. It was her second time ever on skates. Terezka received a nice Christmas present early – a mobile phone from Oskar's Christmas offer. "This is my first mobile phone, and I'll call my mom most often," she said.

During the 33-day season last year, over 13,520 skaters used the Oskar Skating rink in Prague (there were 8,200 visitors a year earlier). “This year, we believe there will be more skaters at the individual rinks than ever before. We expect the greatest rush of skaters in the coming days, because of the holidays. We'll just let ourselves be surprised by whether Prague or Ostrava attracts more skaters," Šindler adds.

More about the Oskar Skating Rinks:

Admission to the rinks is free for everyone. They are open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, until 2 January. Every day from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm there is ice dancing, and all sorts of competitions on the ice are also sponsored. Oskar offers skate rentals adjacent to the rinks. Skates are free for Oskar customers, while others pay CZK 30. Everyone is looking forward to a white Christmas, but if by chance there is a warm-up it won't affect the Oskar Skating Rinks. Thanks to multi-layered ice technology, the surface will remain intact in temperatures of up to 15oC.

The rinks are sources of entertainment for non-skaters, too. You can watch what's going on on the ice through a real-time webcam at www.jakvypadavasjezisek.cz, or you can watch live by using the VideoZona service.
